We are a Permaculture farm in its infancy stages. In 2015, I found Permaculture and started working as Permaculturist. Since then, we have been integrating Permaculture methodology into our farm. In 2017, I've added a farm stay. So we will be similar to a guesthouse and hostel for people who want to practice and learn to farm. With some funding from the farm stay, we should be able to teach local kids in conversational English using English speaking volunteers. As of now, the farm stay units are done. Next

August 23, 2017 By Marisa Rando Buying travel insurance is smart!  Any avid globetrotter will tell you that travel is the most valuable thing you can purchase. Whether it’s personal growth, learning about another culture or just a desire to explore- travel is an investment in you. However, to truly make the most out of any excursion, you want to travel smart. Be Smart… Why Should I Buy Travel Insurance? Whether it’s you, your friends or your relatives, usually someone close to you is making you nervous about your upcoming trip out of the country

began dreaming about my trip abroad and hostel work stay about a year before I stepped foot on the plane. You can bet I spent a lot of time thinking and planning–mostly about how a recent grad like myself with scarce savings could pull off an international experience. From studying abroad to living abroad I wanted to go back to Santiago, Chile. After studying abroad there, I knew I wanted to go back, but I wasn’t sure how to pull it off. With student loans just around the corner, I

The Traveler’s Guide  Photo by Larm Rmah So you’ve decided to travel with a purpose and volunteer abroad? Welcome to the community! Volunteering abroad in exchange for food and accommodation is a wonderful way to save money, learn new skills, help others and experience the local lifestyle. While these are all great ways to enrich your life, there are a few things you’ll need to watch out for. For example, some people use these programs as an opportunity to exploit for cheap labor. It happens to a lot of young travelers, and

The Traveller’s Guide 1. Once you’ve selected your host and location, establish a trial period! Many hosts require a minimum of a few weeks for a volunteering abroad stay, but I would suggest not to promise more than 3 weeks as a trial period to make sure you and you host get on well. If you want to stay longer, you can tell your host that, if everything works well for both of you, you’re willing to stay. In my opinion, a trial should sound like a good idea to any reasonable host. You Owe It To Yourself To Find Your Calling August 5, 2017 By Shay Gleeson Each and every one of us has a purpose, a function, a meaningful reason why we are on this planet. But sadly most of us never find it, choosing not to search, listen or simply ignore it. Instead we sell ourselves short, accept our limits and other people’s expectations of us, coast through our day to day lives while engaging in meaningless activities and wasting our precious energy. Not living the life that you should be living is the

An elephant ride is a popular tourist activity, especially in Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal and other parts of Asia. It is also becoming popular in some regions of Africa. The appeal of such treks is clear – the elephant is the largest land mammal, it’s intelligent, social and emotional. In many ways it is the equivalent experience to swimming with dolphins. However, like dolphins elephants are wild animals and need to be treated with dignity and respect. Trekking elephants are often mistreated and harshly trained and many people now

The desire to travel and experience new cultures around the globe is essentially a good thing, and so is the desire to volunteer; people who volunteer generally hope to do something they will find interesting, something they will learn from and something that will help other people. But it’s up for debate whether many volunteering opportunities bring real benefits to host communities, and many exploit the good intentions of well-meaning volunteers. UK volunteers can pay thousands of pounds (with money mostly going to the tour operator) to undertake short volunteering placements overseas, which

Travelling presents an opportunity to photograph in lots of different destinations and situations, but sometimes there may be culturally sensitive issues to think about before reaching for the camera or other photo-taking device. There are lots of people in the world who do not have clean water, electricity, schooling or enough to eat, let alone access to mobile telephones, the internet and printed media, so they have no idea where their photograph may end up or how it could be used. Sadly, in this day and age, child
